This month, we are pleased to feature three books recently published in a board book format.
Birds by the award-winning husband and wife team of Kevin Henkes and illustrator Laura Dronzek. First published in hardcover in 2009, the New York Times Book Review called it “a perfect book.” A great introduction to all kinds of birds of different shapes, size and colour with a bit of imagination thrown in.
How adorable is Pig the Pug by Aaron Blabey! Originally published in hardcover in 2015, it was the first book in the series. “Pig was a Pug and I’m sorry to say, he was greedy and selfish in most every way.” And so this funny rhyme continues until Pig’s greedy and selfish ways get him into big trouble. The illustrations of this rather overweight dog with bulging eyes are pretty hilarious. The very talented Mr. Blabey is from Australia and was an actor and teacher before becoming an award-winning author/illustrator.
Touch the Brightest Star by Christie Matheson. A wonderful follow-up to Tap The Magic Tree, this interactive journey through the evening sky will delight your little one. Gently press the firefly and find him shining brightly on the next page. Press again and the next page has a full sky of fireflies. Trace the big dipper with your finger and rub the owls’ heads to send them off to bed. Christie divides her time between San Francisco and New England. She has three books for young children using a beautiful combination of collage and watercolours.
