SEPTEMBER 2019 PICTURE BOOK BOX

  • Little White Dogs Can’t Jump was originally published in 2001 but was out-of-print for many years. I was thrilled to recently discover it back in print. Smudge is an adorable white bulldog who of course has short legs. That makes it very difficult for him to jump, especially into the car. His little girl comes up with many creative ways to get Smudge in the car, including a Smudgematic dog lifter. Ultimately, all the ideas are unsuccessful until Mum comes up with a brilliant plan. Bruce Whatley is one of Australia’s most successful and favourite author/illustrators. His wife Rosie Smith regularly collaborates on his books.
  • The Scarecrow by Beth Ferry and illustrated by Eric and Terry Fan. This is a beautiful story of love and friendship between a lonely scarecrow and a scared crow. The lovely rhyme carries us through the seasons and the growing relationship between the two. There’s no doubt in my mind that this book will win many awards and will have a special place in any children’s book collection. The Fan Brothers are from Toronto, Ontario and in my opinion are two of the most talented illustrators in the children’s book business. If you missed my interview with them last year you can find it here.
  • An exclusive letter from Beth Ferry and The Fan Brothers.

Don’t miss my new interview with author Beth Ferry on our website blog.  We’ve got some great bulldog stories!
