  • I Love the Earth by Todd Parr from Berkeley, California. Todd’s latest board book is a child’s love letter to the earth. “I love the trees and I want the owls to have a place to live. I love the fish and I want the oceans to stay blue”. It comes with a list of things that children can do to help the earth like turning off lights, recycling and planting a tree. Todd is the author/illustrator of more than 40 books for children, including the I Love You Book, The Earth Book, and The Thankful Book. His bold colours, simple text and messages of acceptance and empowerment have made him a favourite with children, parents and teachers. (Board book)
  • Hello Lighthouse by Sophie Blackall. This tall narrow book (like a lighthouse) is the story of a new keeper who arrives to care for the lighthouse. He goes through his rather lonely daily duties and writing in the log book as he anxiously awaits his wife’s arrival. When she arrives the two are a team caring for the lighthouse, saving three sailors from a boat that crashes on the rocks, and each other. Soon a baby arrives and the happy family continues their duties, all recorded in the log book. But sadly a letter arrives from the coast guard. A brand new light will be installed with a machine to run it. The keeper’s work is done. Wonderful circular images framed with rope depict the scenes of the family’s life and a cut-away illustration of the lighthouse are simply enchanting.  Information about lighthouses is included at the end of the book. Sophie has illustrated over 30 books and won the 2016 Caldecott Medal for Finding Winnie: The True Story of the World’s Most Famous Bear. Sophie grew up in Australia and currently lives in Brooklyn, New York. (Hardcover)
