  • Pinduli by Janell Cannon. Originally published in hardcover in 2004, this beautiful book is finally in paperback. Janell is from southern California and is the author/illustrator of many much-loved picture books including the bestseller, Stellaluna. Who thought a hyena could look so adorable. Young Pinduli is bullied by the wild dogs about her large ears. She never thought they were that big, but the teasing makes her sad and she tucks her ears in close hoping no one can see them. Then a lion comments about her prickly coat. Pinduli has a soak in the water hole to help her coat lie flat. Then a zebra says her stripes are too disorderly. So she rolls in the dust to hide her stripes. Now Pinduli’s coat is flattened and dusted to a pallid gray. When the animals see her, they all run away because they think they see a ghost and will be punished for being so mean. Pinduli uses the misunderstanding to her advantage by telling the frightened animals that they must make peace to appease bad spirits. Janell likes to create books about misunderstood and feared animals in hopes of giving the reader a different perspective.
  • What’s Next Door?  by Nicola O’Byrne. The sequel to Open Very Carefully, another interactive adventure with the charming Carter the Crocodile. A fabulous read-aloud. Clap your hands to turn on the light. Carter is lost and needs help to find his way home – or he will eat you! Draw a door with your finger so Carter can squeeze through. You might need to jiggle and wiggle the book because he is so big! Oops, he landed into the snow which doesn’t work for a crocodile. Use your finger to draw another door and hopefully what’s next door will be just right.
  • An exclusive letter from Nicola O’Byrne
  • Chocolate from Purdy’s to celebrate the month of love
